AB The theme of the text by the leading media scholar Lisa Cartwright is the dissolution of the sharp distinction between the natural sciences and the humanities, with the body becoming a space of Foucaultian inscription of meanings and medical diagnosis a clash of surface and interior concepts. An excerpt from her study examines the historical developments that preceded contemporary methods of body scanning in the field of neurology, by evaluating some of the uses of motion picture studies in neurology.
