AB This translation of a study by the Dutch art theorist and publicist Karl Margry exhaustively reveals the background of the production of the Czechoslovak film weekly Aktualita during the period of the German occupation 1938-1945. The author looks at the situation of film reporting in this period through Karel Peceny's strategies and negotiations with the German authorities, and describes Aktualita as an example of collaborative production. The personality of Karel Peceny and his attitude towards the German authorities are revealed in parallel with questions concerning the organisation of film reporting within the Protectorate structures, describing the gradual transformation of Peceny's position from initial defiance through reconciliation to active collaboration with the Nazis.
