Stoker's Dracula JF Iluminace YR 2010 VO 22 IS 1 SP 101 OP 129 UL https://iluminace.cz/en/artkey/ilu-201001-0006.php AB The author is involved in film adaptations of Stoker's novel Dracula. He first approaches the book as a modern English prose, then traces its different interpretations by three directors and the relationships between their rewritings. Murnau, Herzog, and Coppola have gone beneath the basic level of the text, with the first two leaning towards an allegorical adaptation and the third towards a symbolic one, according to the author. The filmmakers were not only interested in the focal points of the story, but also in the issues of displaced death and sexuality, commenting on the aesthetics of modernity, etc.
