PT - JOURNAL ARTICLE AU - Goldsmith, Ben TI - If You Build It- Film Studios and the Transformative Effects of Migrating Media Productions DP - 2010 Jun 1 TA - Iluminace PG - 27--46 VI - 22 IP - 2 IS - 0862397X AB - The author maps the current developments in the globalization of film production. The much-discussed migration of runaway productions, film projects fleeing for cheaper services, locations, labour and financial incentives, varies to a large extent according to the opportunities offered by studios anywhere in the world. The meaning of the word studio here means both a physical location, a studio hall with an adjacent outdoor lot, and a flagship in a complex network of local infrastructure, which, in addition to studios, usually (e.g. also in the case of Prague) includes attractive accessible locations, a non-unionised, cheap and flexible workforce, transparently functioning production service providers, a system of financial incentives or tax breaks, and wider facilities, including a secure legal framework and tourist attractions. The contribution of Goldmisth's article lies in the categorization of migrant project destinations.
