Meopton IIIa: The Way to the Czechoslovak Wide-Screen Projector
The article analyses the situation in Czechoslovak cinema after 1945: it describes the post-war cinema network and its technical equipment, assesses the level of Czechoslovak state industry and provides information on Czech companies that produced projection equipment. Definition and requirements of the competition for a new projection machine according to the requirements of FITES (Film Technical Board), overview of the companies that participated in the competition. Results of the competition and production problems. Plans of Czechoslovak State Film for the introduction of widescreen film in 1955-1960. Activities of the Meopta company in 1945-1960. Development work on the Meopton IIIa, other projection devices, final direction of technical equipment development.
