The Appropriation of Prestige. Asta Nielsen's Star Persona in the Polish Territories of Russia before World War I

The article describes how the Warsaw-based film company Sfinks managed to establish itself on the local market thanks to the success of The Abyss (1910), starring Danish silent film star Asta Nielsen. This success was repeated by The Slave of Passions (1914) with Polish actress Pola Negri.
