Studie se zabývá rozborem filmu Václava Wassermana Trhani, natočeného podle stejnojmenné povídky Jana Nerudy. V kontextu české kinematografie 20. a 30. let je tento film jeden z mála pokusů o nezávislý film se sociální tématikou a známkami realismu.
