The text tries to show the role that language versions can play in the process of localisation of the film industry and the limits of this process. The author demonstrates his conclusions about the localization strategy of dubbing by using a DVD of Disney's The Lion King. Some of the remarks are also relevant to high-budget Hollywood feature productions and their strategy of establishing themselves in a foreign language cultural space.

An example of the process and importance of dubbing William Shakespeare's complete dramatic works into Czech: Czech Television purchased a cycle of 34 plays, filmed by the British BBC in the 1980s. Seven of the plays were not broadcast at all, six were subtitled and the rest were dubbed.
